Using an Agent When Buying a Home

Buying a home is an exciting and complex adventure. It can also be a very time-consuming and costly one if you're not familiar with all aspects of the process, and don't have all the best information and resources at hand.

Of course, information is easily found online these days. Virtually all homes that are for sale are advertised online, so if you have the time and inclination you can easily search homes that meet your needs right from your desk at home or work.

However, for the buyers who are reluctant to engage a buyers agent, I have a question.

  • First, if you were involved in a $500000 lawsuit, wouldn't you hire a lawyer?
  • If you had a $5000000 tax bill, wouldn't you hire an accountant?
  • When making a $500000 (or more) purchase, shouldn't you have an expert working with you?

The analogies are not entirely apt, partly because while you have to pay a lawyer or an accountant, you generally do not have to pay for buyer's representation! Our fees are typically paid out through the seller's side of the equation.
